From a Shelter to the Shelf: Our Founder's Story

The story of Scratch is one of resilience, rooted in the belief that our circumstances do not define our destiny.

Our founder Brian Lee saw a deep need in the market for healthy, accessible food that nourished our bodies without forcing us to sacrifice our heritage and the flavors we love. Motivated by the fact that 60% of Americans suffer from food-related chronic diseases, Brian began to craft delicious plant-based options at home and eventually that spark became Scratch...

With a brand promise to never compromise on ingredients and never compromise on taste, our company's commitment to quality and transparency is the heart of our company and the “why” behind every ingredient we source and every product we create. It’s the unwavering drive to turn obstacles into opportunities and to build a legacy of health, joy, and empowerment for all even as a small business competing against giants.

Our founder, Brian Lee, knows this journey firsthand. Years ago, as a high school student experiencing homelessness, he lived in a shelter just down the street from his local Walmart and he beat the odds to become an advertising executive and then eventually launch Scratch.

In a truly full-circle moment, Brian was honored at the grand re-opening of that very same Walmart...not as a visitor, but as a founder whose products were now proudly featured on its shelves. Through relentless hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in a bigger purpose, Brian transformed his life. He was able to bring his mother on stage to share in the milestone on Mother's Day Weekend, a testament to their shared journey from hardship to hope.
